Etymology

Combe Baskerville (lost), la Cumbe c. 1086EveB , Cumba 1144, c. 1180 Glouc, Cumb (e )1216 ClR, 1261FF , 1265 Misc, Comb (e )1287 QW, Comb (e ) Baskirvile 1499 Ipm, 1830 M, Comb (e ) Baskerville 1515–29 ECP, Combaskervyle 1568FF , cum Basket Feild 1774 PR 13. v. cumb 'valley'. It was held by Bernard de Baskerville in the 12th century (Glouc) and Walter de Baskerville in the 13th (1216 ClR); Sir John Baskerville was seised of the manor in 1499 Ipm 123. Mr C. R. Elrington points out that this lost place was without doubt in the parish of Westcote (228infra ).
