Etymology

'Clearing used for growing peas', v. pisu , lēah , and also grāf 'grove' and hyll . The reference in 1539AOMB 204 places Pisley in Hailes; its location is indicated by the f.n. Peasley in Ireley at grid 144–040298; Peasley close in the adjacent parish of Pinnock (20infra ) was doubtless part of the same woodland area.
