Etymology

Cowlsworth (lost), Couelwarthe 13 WinchLB, Collisworth , Coullesworth 1575TRMB , Cowlesworth 1775GR 184. The first el. is probably a reduced form of some such OE  pers.n. as Cūðwulf or an older p.n. Cow-hill (v. , hyll , and gen.sg. -es ), with worð 'enclosure', apparently replacing an earlier waroð 'marshy ground'.
