Etymology

v. þrop 'outlying farmstead'. Hetrop , a manor separate from but adjoining Hatherop (36infra ), probably contains OE  hēah 'high'.The later name no doubt embodies that of Willelm , who in 1086 held the manor of Roger de Laci.
