Etymology

Saberton [ˈsabətən], æt Sapere tún 969 (11th) BCS 1239, sapertun (e )1045 (18th) KCD 777, Sapletone 1086 DB, which was in Tibblestone Hundred. This is of similar origin to Sapperton (i, 137supra ), 'soap- boiler farm', v. sāpere , tūn , with AN  -le - for -re - in DB (cf. IPN 107); the history of the ME  word sopere is carried back some 250 years by this p.n. On the identification of the OE forms v. Finb 119, 162.
