Etymology

Baywell Wood, on bæganwellan 718 (11th) BCS 139, to Bægenwelle , of Bægenwelle 979 (11th) KCD 623, on beagan wylle c. 1050 (c. 1200) ib 963, (riuulum de ) Beiwelle 11 (c. 1200) ib 1367, Baywell 1712GR 892.'Bǣga 's spring or stream', v. wella . Baywell was on the bounds of the land granted at Daylesford by Æthelbald king of the Mercians to Bægia 'servo Dei' for a monastery (BCS 139). This is, of course, not to be confused with the origin of Bibury and Bywell (26, 28 supra ).
