Sparkey Wood is Sparhey 1291For , Spart (h )hei , Spart (h )hey 1338– 1400, Spart (h )heymede 1400, Spart (h )heywode 1404Ct , 1441MinAcct , Sparchmad 1338, Spertheyeslygh 1404, Spertheylane 1407Ct . This is probably a compound of ME  sperte , 'spring, fount,' and (ge)hæg, 'enclosure,' with later common confusion of t and k . Cf. Spark Mead infra 638, le spert (a marsh) 1334 Ch, in Foulness (Ess), Spurt St (PN Bk 158), Sperte (PN Wo 392), Spurtham (PN D 642), Sparklie Wood (PN Sr 47) and possibly Spartywell (PN NbDu 186).
