Mell Ho is Mellhowse , Jossekins alias Melhouse , Mellowes 1589LRMB , Mill House 1777 C. It was the home of John atte Melne (1327SR ). This and the neighbouring Mell Rd preserve the normal Essex development of OE  myln . Elsewhere the standard mill has been substituted. Cf. Melcote , Myll busshes 1589LRMB . The lost alternative derives from the family of Walter Josekyn (1285Ass ).
