Etymology

Professor Zachrisson, noting the nearness of Manston (supra 329), the history of Manuden (infra 551–2) and the personal names Mannic , Manwin , Mansune and Manstan in the Essex DB, has suggested a personal name Mann (a ) (Vising Mélanges 195). Professor Ekwall would prefer to interpret it as 'many trees,' cf. Monyash (PN Db 175).
