Etymology

Bovington's Fm is Bovingtons 1547–51 ECP, Bovyndens al. Bovyngtons Ernesfee 1562Recov , Earnest-fee 1768 M. It is so named from the family of Thomas Bonington (sic) who was one of the mainpernors of the land of the Abbess of Caen in 1369 (Fine). Ernesfee from Robert fitz Ernis (12th M ii, 132).
