Etymology

There is no doubt about the identification of Cadenhou (v. VCH i, 450), which must be the name of a neighbouring ridge. For similar examples of change of name cf. Asheldham (Haintuna in DB), Bradwell-juxta-Mare (Effecestre and Duna in DB) and Downham which is entered under Ramesdana in DB. Cf. also Cranham supra 124. Cadenhou is 'Cada 's spur of land,' v. hoh .

The later name is OE  Had (d )anstoc , 'the stocc of Hada or Headda .'
