Queen Elizabeth's Hunting Lodge

Etymology
Queen Elizabeth's Hunting Lodge is the great [lo ]dg upon Dannet Hill 1588, Greate Standinge on Dannetts Hill 1589 Essex Naturalist vii, 83. The building dates probably from the end of the 15th century (ib., ix, 166). It was used as a grand-stand from which to view the hunting by Queen Elizabeth on her visits to the Forest (Fisher 197).
