Pole Hill is Pole Hill c. 1840 TA. Cf. Pouls fee in Chyngford Hauke (1498 ER xiv). It preserves the name of the manor of Chingford Pauls , belonging to St Paul 's Cathedral. For the development, cf. Be (a )uchamp Poel 1327SR , Poulis 1343FF , Belcham St Poll 1533FF , Wickham Pole 1558FF , s. nn. Belchamp and Wickham St Paul's infra 409, 467, and Powlesfeld 1499, Polefeld 1500, Brickfeld pauli , Poulescroft 1527, and Poles Marsh in Walthamstow, deriving similarly from the name of Paul Salesbury (PN W'stow 34).
