Etymology

Ripple Level, Rippleside and Ripple Marsh (6″). Cf. Ripple 1271 FF, 1474FF , Rippledon , Ripplemersh 1452 Shawcross, Ripplestrete 1545 LP, Riple wal , Riple ward 1497Egerton , Rypill , Ryp (p )yl (l )mershe , Ryp (p )yl (l )strete 1536, 1538 HMC x, Reple 1557FF , Rypleside 1609LRMB . OE  rippel , 'strip,' here, no doubt, the higher land along Ripple Road (6″), north of the marshes and Ripple Level. Cf. Ripple (PN Wo 158).The ward was one of the four divisions of the ancient parish.
