Etymology

The first element is obscure, but the most likely origin is OE  sǣtere 'robber' or the same word used as a pers. name. Cf. Satterleigh (PN D 349). Ekwall (DEPN 393) suggests the possibility of a derivative of OE  seohtre 'drain, ditch.' v. ingtun .
