Etymology

Redmere (local) is Rotmare , Redmære 1086 DB, Redmar (e )1086 DB, t. JohnAddCh , 1260Rental , 1260, 1295 YI (p), 1350 Ipm, Riddemare 1260Rental , Reddemer 1295 YI (p). Probably 'reed- marsh' from hreod and OScand  marr or mere . Professor Ekwall suggests that the 1260 spelling Riddemare is decisive.The DB spelling Rotmare is probably erratic. Cf.
