Etymology

'Amongst the brushwood,' from hrisum , dat. pl. of hris , possibly used of a place where faggots were obtained. A common Dan p.n. Cf. Willelmo Pynderamputando et cariando les ryse 8s. 6d. (1393 Fabr) and in the gloss faggotis vocatis Myssomeryse , i.e. 'Midsummer rise' (1417 BevAct). For DBUt -, added to distinguish Rysome from Rise infra 70, cf. Owthorne infra 28. v. garðr .
