Etymology

'Fot 's farmstead,' v. tun . On the pers. name Fōt (from the OScand  by-name Fótr ), v. Fotsey (PN BedsHu 114), Foston (PN NRY 39). Fosce - (and Foste - which is probably in error for Fosce -) is an AN spelling for the OScand  gen. Fóts . v. The Wolds supra 13.
