Etymology

The DB forms suggest that Ulrome is a compound of the OE  pers. name Wulfhere (with loss of initial W - through Scandinavian influence) and ham. There would be no difficulty in supposing an early and regular assimilation of -lf - to -l (l )-.'Wulfhere 's homestead.' On the later forms v. Introd. xxxi.
