Etymology

'Wineca 's farmstead,' tun and Winchendon (PN Bk iii).A strong form of the pers. name is found in Winksley (WRY), Wincheslaie 1086 DB. Winkton was depopulated in the 16th century (cf. KI 77 n.). The site of the village is noted on O.S. (6″), 163 NW.
