Etymology

'Settlement, farm, estate by the sea', OE  + tūn. Identical with Seaton Durham NZ 3949 and Cumberland, Devon, Northumberland etc.The manorial addition refers to the family of Robert de Carew who held lands in Owton belonging to his fee of Seaton in the reign of Henry I (1100×35).
