'New farm or estate', v. nīwe , tūn , cf. prec. and Blackmoor Forest infra . The affix is from the Monteacute family: Simon Monteacute had a grant from the king of 10 shillings rent in Blakemore in 1290, and William Monteacute had 'a certain waste in the Forest of Blakemore ' in 1320 and held New Land at his death in 1343 (Hutch3 3292, 744). It is possible that Westneweton 1257 FF belongs here.
