Etymology

Barrowland Fm (SY 548965), Barrowlands Farm 1692 DCMDeed, Barrowland 1811 OS, probably to be associated with 'land inLa Berghe '1236 FF, 'the wood de la Beigive [no doubt sic for Bergwe ] of John Bonet '1300 Hutch1 1362 (this reference is missing in Hutch3), and Thomas atte Bergh 1327 SR, v. beorg 'rounded hill, tumulus'. The farm lies at 548′ on the slopes of a hill reaching 700′, and several tumuli are marked 6″ nearby.
