Etymology
'Reed pool', v. hrēod , pōl , with reference to Radipole Lake at the N end of which Radipole is situated; the forms with medial -e - (Rede -, Rade -, etc.) may be mainly analogical, but those in Radi -, etc. probably contain the adj. hrēodig 'reedy'. It might be noted that the reduced forms Rappele , Rappole , Reppole , etc. were in almost exclusive use between 1285 and 1428. The bounds of the par. in 1582 are given in Hutch3 2 483, cf. also Cerne (DoNHAS 29202).
