Etymology
Long - distinguishes this par. from Blandford F. and Blandford St M. pars. q. v. supra , v. lang 1 'long'; Langton - means 'long farm or estate', v. tūn , cf. Langton Fm & Langton Ho, Littleton Fm & Littleton Ho infra . For the identification of the DB forms, v. Eyton 131–2, VCHDo 398, 111, DBGazetteer 122. Michael Belet is mentioned in 1216 ClR, cf. Emma Belet 1254 FF. The family of -de (la ) Tylly , -(de ) Latylle had lands both here and in Blandford St M. par. supra (Hutch3 1 163, 282f, and the form Blaneford Philippi de Tylly may in fact belong under the latter, cf. Robert de Tilli 1205 ClR, Oliva de Tylly 1225 ib, Richard de la Tille 1236 Fees, John de la Tyl (l )e , John de la Tille , John de la Tyele 1288Ass , 1290 FF, 1309 ib, John de Latille 1316 FA (he held Langeton jointly with Joan le Botiller ). Langeton Botiller was a distinct manor; the family of le Botiller was here from 1280, cf. John le Botiller 1280 Pat, John le Botyl (l )er 1280 Misc, 1303 FA, John le Boteler 1288Ass , etc.Langgeton Gulden seems to have been another name for Langeton Latyle ; the tithing called Langetone Latyle in 1327SR is Langgeton ' Gulden ' in 1332 SR, and in 1334 Cl, Ipm Henry le Guldene held at his death the manors of Lang (e )blaneford and Langeton Latile , cf. also Roger le Gildene 1309 FF, Henry le Gildene 1327SR , Henry de Gulden 1329 Pat, Henry le Gulden '1332 SR, Elizabeth de Gulden 1346 FA. There were two mills at Langton Long B. in 1309 FF.
