Etymology

Littleton Fm & Littleton Ho (ST 894047), Liteltone 1086 DB, Litletun ', Litleton (p)1220 Cur, Littleton '1242–3 Feeset passim with variant spellings Lytleton , Lit (t )elton , Litilton , Lyt (t )ylton , Lyt (t )elton ; Littleton juxta Blaneford Martel 1310 FF, Lytelton by Blaneforde St Mary 1421, 1426 Cl, 'little farm or estate', from lȳtel and tūn , so named to distinguish it from Langton (Long Blandford) which is situated on the opposite bank of R. Stour. There was a mill here in 1086 DB (VCHDo 386).
