Upton (SY 984932), Upton Fm & Upton Heath, Vpton , Upton 1463MinAcct , 1485 Pat et passim , Uppon 1522Russ , Upton Farme 1612DCMDeed , cf. Upton-wood 1661 Hutch1, 'higher farm', v. upp , tūn , cf. Upton Ho & Upton Lake (named from this place) in Canford Magna par. supra , and the analogous Upton in Osmington par. 1 213; it lies at only c. 50′, but must have been named in relation to an even lower settlement such as at Hamworthy par. or Lytchett Minster par. both infra . There is mention of a 'cony-warren or pasture' here in 1485 Pat, and of [the church of] Saynt Peter in Upton in 1519Ct .
