Etymology

'Farm called after Puda', from the OE  pers.n. Puda (Redin 107, cf. Pudford Wo 65) and -ingtūn. The alternative form -cot in 1303 is from cot 'cottage'; for interchange of cot and tūn , cf. Luffincott D 152, Waddlestone D 188. In the late form Puttynge , -ing is probably only analogical resulting from weakening of -ton to [tən].
