Poll Bridge (Fm) (ST 683125), Poole bridge 1569–74Map , Poll Bridge 1811 OS, Poolebridge Fm 1939 Kelly, probably to be associated with Deoulepole Hy 3 (14) Cerne (2 ), in the bounds of Blackmoor Forest), Deuelepole 1280Ass (p), Develpol 1332, Dellepol 1428Salis , v. dēofol 'devil', pōl 'pool', cf. also Alan de la Pole 1268Ass (associated with Caundel ). For somewhat analogous names, cf. Purbrook Ha (DEPN) and Puckmere Brk 898 (both containing pūca 'goblin') and Nikerpoll Sx 562, Nykerpole W 444 (from nicor 'water-sprite').
