Etymology

Woors or Worths (lost, near Holway Fm supra ), Woors or Worths 1870 Hutch3, close called Worthes 1612 (1682) Seymer , lands sometimes called Denches Worths now the lands of Richard Buishop , land called Hollwalls Worths now the lands of John Dawe 1620DRO , Work (sic) (a farm) 1774 Hutch1, Work or Worr (a farm) 1795 Boswell, Worr 1870 Hutch3, probably a manorial name from a family called (de ) Worthe (not noted in this par. but recorded in Beaminster and Sherborne pars. in 1327, 1332 SR). The 1620 forms occur in a deed for the manor of Holway supra (hence Hollwalls Worths ). According to Hutch3 4 10, 'this name is now (1870) quite unknown'.
