Etymology

Water House Fm (SY 395998), Water House Fm 1839TA , Water Ho 1811 OS, cf. the highway leadeing from Water howsse to Marshallsea 1678Sheridan , and clearly to be associated with Roger de la Watere de Betescumb '1288Ass . From ME  water in the sense 'stream', with reference to a small tributary of R. Char which rises just N of here (cf. Stepping Stones infra ), with hous 'house', v. Marshalsea in Marshwood par. infra .
