Etymology
Melcombe Regis, originally a separate borough, was united with the borough of Weymouth in 1571. The joint borough was extended to include parts of the parishes of Radipole and Wyke R. in 1895, and parts of the parishes of Bincombe, Broadwey, Chickerell, Preston, Radipole, Upwey and Wyke R. in 1933 (Kelly).
