Etymology

In 1894 large parts of the Shaftesbury parishes of St James and Holy Trinity were transferred to Cann for civil purposes, and at the same date parts of Cann were included in the borough of Shaftesbury, further parts of Cann being transferred to the borough in 1920, and parts of both Cann and Motcombe (Enmore Green) in 1933.
