This may be the OE  boðl , 'building,' though that element has not hitherto been noted in South Country place-names. We have, further, Buddelhayes (infra 631), Buddlehay in Wiveliscombe (So), Botheleheye in 1327SR (p), Buddie Oak in Halse (So), atte Bothele 1327SR (p), and Buddie in Fordingbridge (Ha), la Bothele 1305Ass .
