Etymology
The second element in this name is probably worþ in spite of the confusion of the early forms. The first is the pers. name Hlūd found in OE Hludesbeorh (BCS 741), now Luddesdown (K). The name may, however, be of ME origin, from the corresponding ME surname Lowde .
