Etymology

Nuns Clough (6″) formerly Thurmansley, Thurmodesl 'c. 1180 Darley, Thormondeslee , Turmundel 'JohnWollCh , Tormundeleg (h )1236 FF, Thrumley (e )1373Cor , 1377 RadCh (p), 1535 Val, Thurmansleigh 1537AOMB , Thurmansleigh alias Nonneclough 1545 DbA xxvii, Thurmansleye 1555MinAcct , Thormesley ElizRental , Nuncloughe 1596Derby . The earlier name is 'Þormmund's clearing', v. lēah , the first element being ODan  pers.n. Þormund . In 1236 an acre of wood was granted to Rametta, Prioress of King's Mead, Derby, hence the later name. v. nunne , clōh .
