Etymology

The Scaddows, Schadhawe 1312 DbCh, Scadders 1539Rental , 1541 DbAns vi, Scaddowes 1604Burdett , Scaddowe yate 1613 ib. Perhaps 'boundary enclosure', v. scēað , haga 1 . It is close to the Repton- Ticknall boundary. Cf. R. Sheaf supra 16. Alternatively the first element may be scad , sb (NED), 'bullace (prunus insititia )', cf. Scad Beck (PN Cu 26).
