Etymology

Possibly, as Ekwall (DEPN) suggests, 'cress farm', v. cærsen , tūn ; cf. Cassington (PN O 252). The OE adjective cærsen , cersen 'of cress' is not recorded independently but would be a regular formation from OE  cærse 'cress' (v. -en 2 ). For DBGh -, cf. IPN 114.
