Etymology

Ows Low (6″), Ulueslowe late 13thCPG , Ouslowe 1592 ib, Oweslow 1711 ib. Perhaps 'Wulf's burial mound', v. hlāw . For the development cf. supra 214. Loss of W - may be due to Scandinavian influence, which, though not strong in the area, is evident in the nearby stream- name Scow Brook. This is a tumulus in which human remains have been found.
