Etymology

Aldwark Grange (6″), Aldwarke Graunge 1539BelCh , graunge of Aldewarke otherwise called Aldwarpe 1548 ib, Aldwarke Grange 1550 DbA xxviii, Aldewark grange 1602BelCh , cf. le Grangefeld late Hy 3 ib. No doubt the grange belonged to Darley Abbey, v. grange . It is probably to be identified with herdewicum 1162–82 Darley (v. heorde- wīc).
