In the neighbourhood was Usegarthe 1610Brayton , Euse 1687 CW xv.

The second element of this late-recorded name is brycg, which suggests that the first, with which we may compare Ousemire in Barton (We), is a river-name, perhaps of similar origin to the Nb Ouse Burn (RN 318).
