Etymology

This is a British place-name. The first element is Welsh , Cornish, Breton tal , 'brow, end.' The second element is uncertain. It may be Welsh  can , 'white,' OCorn  can , 'albus,' Breton kann , 'bland, brilliant,' possibly here as part of a hill-name, 'white brow.'
