Carleton Hall is Carlton hall 1578Cocker . Hall Carleton is so named in 1733 (CW x). For the order of the elements, cf. infra 417.v. karlatūn and cf. supra 148, 340. NB (ii, 25) renders this villa rusticorum , 'a town of husbandmen.'
