Etymology

This presumably has the same origin as Turnberry (Ayrshire), c. 1200 Turnebiri (PN Scot 316–17), both deriving from OE  *trun , *turn , 'circular place,' as in Turnham Hall (PN ERY 259) and Turnham Green (PN Mx 90), and byrig , dat. sg. of burh .
