Etymology
This is an inversion compound, the elements being ON kirkja and the name of the Irish saint called Brynach in Wales. He is also the eponym of Llanfyrnach (Pemb), Llanfrynach (Brecon and Card) and other places in Wales, and of Braunton (PN D 32).
