'Dod(d)el's farm', from an OE  pers.n. Dod (d )el and tūn, with gorst , hall , hūs , lane . The pers.n. is a diminutive form of the OE  pers.n. Dod (d )a , cf. Feilitzen 223. The hall, or more precisely its predecessor, was the home of Robert del Hall 1393 ChRR. Dodleston is near Gorstella 159infra .
