Chalice Fruit (local) is Charlesfrith 1542Bodl , 1555 Pat, Challys ffrythe , Challes frethe 1546MinAcct , Churles Frythe 1576Cole xxxvii.The second element is fyrhðe, perhaps denoting 'brushwood,' v. supra 179. Forms are too late for any certain suggestion as to the first.It may be OE  ceorl, 'churl.'
