Etymology

The above forms refer to the place from which Chilford Hundred (supra 99) was named. The modern places of this name, however, are not on the same site. They date from c. 1840. The hundred meeting- place was on the Linton boundary, between Great and Little Linton, at a ford through the Bourne due south of Little Chilfords.
