Etymology

Papley Grove, Papley Hollow. Cf. Pappele 1279 RH, 1334, 1385 BM, Papledene 1500Pembroke . 'Pappa 's wood,' v. lēah . The dene (v. denu ) may well be the hollow itself. They are near Papworth infra 171 and are probably named from the same man.
