Etymology
'Ducc 's enclosure,' v. worþ . This personal name is not on independent record, but is found in other place-names. Cf. Ducksworth (PN BedsHu 45), Duxhurst (PN Sr 293), Dukesfield (PN NbDu 66), Duxbury (PN La 129). There were formerly two churches here, dedicated respectively to St John and St Peter . For interchange of ford and worþ cf. PN NbDu 268 (§ 4), Cotchford and Ockford (PN Sx 366, 523–4), PN D, vol. 1, xxxv, Ufford (PN Nth 244) and Chafford (PN Ess 120).
